Outdoor burning is heavily regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality under the State's Clean Air Act. Outdoor burning is prohibited in municipalities unless the municipality has adopted an Outdoor Burning Ordinance consistent with the Clean Air Act. For the convenience of its citizens, the City of Hico has adopted such an ordinance . Anyone wishing to conduct an outdoor burn must secure a permit , which is available at no cost and can be secured at City Hall or through this website. The permit spells out all the terms and conditions required by Hico's Ordinance. Anyone violating the provisions of the Ordinance may be subject to prosecution.
