Permits and Registrations

Many aspects of our permit and inspection process are regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation . Their regulatory authority is spelled out in the Texas Occupations Code which can be accessed through this search engine .

The State requires individuals employed as A/C Technicians, Plumbers and Electricians by licensed and that contractors in those fields be licensed and insured. The City of Hico recognizes provisions within state law which allows a homeowner occupying his homestead to work on the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems in that homestead without having the required licenses. A notarized affidavit of ownership and occupancy must be filed with the City and the work must still be permitted and inspected.
