City Elections


Voter Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the election;
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States;
  3. Must not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court;
  4. Must be a resident of the City on the day of the election;
  5. Must be a registered voter on the day of the election; and,
  6. Must not have been finally convicted of a felony or, if so convicted, must have been: fully discharged his sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or, pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote.

Eligibility Requirements for Candidates:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older on the first date of the term to be filled at the election;
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States;
  3. Must not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court;
  4. Must not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the persons has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities; and,
  5. Must have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the City for six months immediately preceding the deadline for filing an application for a place on the ballot (for a write-in candidate, preceding the date of the election).

Additional Eligibility Requirement for Mayoral Candidates:

Must have resided within the municipal limits for at least the 12 months preceding the Election Day.
